US rag Motor Trend has the scoop on the upcoming C7 Corvette. In an
interview with a senior GM suit Jim Queen, plans for a potty 700bhp
flagship model were mooted and rumours of four-wheel-drive scotched.
Intriguingly, Queen confirmed that the 700-pony output would be
achieved without the aid of forced induction. If our calculations are
correct, that would ensure the new Vette is the most powerful
naturally-aspirated series production car in town…

Next month’s Geneva shindig is shaping up very nicely indeed. One of the stars of the show will surely be Maserati’s GranTurismo two-door cruiser, revealed for the first time in these official images. Striking panel work aside, the GranTurismo is notable for being larger, snazzier and no doubt more expensive than the outgoing Coupé…

Better late than never, eh? After seemingly decades of allowing BMW to coin it courtesy of the 3 Series in the compact premium coupé market, Audi has finally produced a competitor. The first official images of the new A5 coupé and its S5 high performance sibling have been leaked, apparently from Audi’s own website…

Worried that Ford might be cutting back on spending at Aston Martin now that its plans to flog the British brand to highest bidder are out in the open? If Aston’s marketing department is anything to go by, the penny pinching has already begun. Because if “Vanquish S Ultimate Edition” is the best it can up with for this latest revision of their flagship model, the staff have surely done a runner. Likewise, the fact that the car appears to be an entirely cosmetic affair hardly reeks of significant investment. However, there is some good news. Aston is now offering the Vanquish with a manual cog-swapper – and its available as an upgrade kit for existing owners. Cue much rejoicing…

As we reported back in November, Stateside public demand has forced BMW to backtrack on its original decision
not to offer the M5 supersaloon with a triple pedal, stick twiddling transmission
(though European and British buyers remain stuck with the robot box as the only
option). However, justification for BMW’s reluctance has now emerged courtesy
of a report suggesting that the US-only manual M5 suffers from excessive axle
tramp…

Following recent reports and rumours indicating LVHM had snapped up Aston Martin, the French luxury goods outfit has issued a public denial. Best known for hawking pricey nonessential paraphernalia including Louis Vuitton clobber, Moet champers and Tag Hauer watches, LVHM was among 25 companies said to have made enquiries when Ford originally put Aston up for sale. LVHM now claims a formal bid was never made…

The finer details of TVR’s recent history are approaching encyclopaedic proportions. However, it appears the Smolenski chapter of the saga may be drawing to a close. The receivers of the production arm of TVR, known as Blackpool Automotive, have revealed that Smolenski and Co. may not have retained the trademark rights to TVR after all, leaving the Russian with little, if any, ownership or involvement with TVR…

Forget the Audi-bashing elegance of the new S80 and the low key classiness of the XC90 SUV. And don’t be distracted by the surprising funkiness of the C30 coupe-hatchback. Big wagons with enough seats for an army of ill-tempered offspring and ludicrous amounts of luggage is what Volvos, even now, are all about. Right? Well, that and the ability to look after you better than the average barge if you decide you simply can’t be bothered not to park in a ditch at, say, 50mph. The launch of the new V70 premium estate car, therefore, is still a key moment for the Swedish brand…
