BMW wheels out Mini Clubman

It may be a classic British icon. But the modern Mini is firmly in German hands. No use sulking, therefore, about the fact that BMW decided not to bother engineering the new Mini Clubman to suit our crazy right-hand drive needs. For the record, the Clubman is essentially a stretched Mini with increased luggage and passenger space. And it has a funky asymmetric suicide-door layout that ain’t exactly optimal for right-hand drive markets…

Ford’s C1 chassis will be sold Stateside, after all

Ford’s really rather excellent C1 chassis underpins several winning products including the second generation Focus and C-Max compact MPV. So, it’s more than a little odd that the ailing US auto giant has so far declined to offer any C1-based models to US customers. However, reports now suggest that former England cricketer Ford’s incumbent bigwig Alan Mulally has had a change of heart. Both the 2nd gen Focus and the C-Max will be in US showrooms no later than 2011…

Porsche Panamera takes shape: it ain’t pretty

The idea of a Porsche-built saloon car has always been more a matter of dollars and cents in the Cayenne idiom than about satisfying hard core driving enthusiasts. But we were still hoping the Panamera would be a looker. After all, the slinky CLS four-door coupe is arguably Mercedes’ finest looking model. Sorry to say therefore that the latest spy images of Porsche Panamera saloon reveal a distinctly dumpy design.

Ferrari unsheathes F430 Scuderia

First things first, folks. This is definitely not the F430 Challenge Stradale. A lightweight, battle-ready F430 with a dose of extra power might sound an awful lot like an F430 Challenge Stradale. But it ain’t. It’s the new F430 Scuderia, ummm-kay?

Official: BMW wheels out 1 Series Coupé

Creeping gargantuanism. It’s the ever present plague of the modern motor car. So, with each new model BMW’s painfully popular 3 Series coupé gets a little portlier. Take the flagship of the current (non M3) range, the 335i. It clocks in at 1,600kg and is a massive 350mm wider than a mid ‘90s E36 3 Series.
