Rumours of all-wheel drive Fezzas have been floated frequently since the early 90s. The latest riff on the 4WD Ferrari involves a new system capable of entirely disengaging drive to the front wheels when required, thereby sidestepping the torque-sapping downside of a conventional arrangement.

A quick heads up for ye addicts of all things Fezza. A short video of a shake down road test of the recently revealed one-off Ferrari P4/5, as commissioned by a certain James Glickenhaus, has been released. It’s not much of a spectacle at 28 seconds long. But it does at least confirm that the car looks seriously exotic dicing with more mundane machinery on public roads in Italy…

Italian car couture house, Pininfarina, is preparing to wheel out a new Ferrari-badged project at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in So-Cal on 20th August. Cue rampant speculation, headless chicken impressions and all round Fezza-fueled, foam-filled, mouth-frothing madness. Problem is, the car is a one-off commissioned by a private (and, one assumes, hilariously wealthy) US client. So it goes…

Ferrari has been prepping a promo video for the 599 GTB’s coming out party at Geneva later this month. A clever clog over at rideroom.com bagged the 599 as it was filmed hitting speeds of up to 150mph alongside a classic F40.

We’re not sure if this is all part of Ferrari’s masterplan or whether picture leakage in recent days forced its hand. But Fezza has come clean on its new flagship front-engined coupe. Previously labelled as the F600, the new car will be known as the 599 GTB. It’ll be shown for the first time in Geneva at the end of Feb. And it’ll rock with no less than 620bhp.

Ferrari has released the results of a competition for automotive design students. Students from the four most prestigious design schools worldwide (so, that’s the Center for Creative Studies of Detroit, Coventry School of Art and Design, European Institute of Design of Turin and Tokyo Communication Arts) produced proposals based around either the eight cylinder mid or 12 cylinder front-engined Ferrari concepts.

On paper, the Ferrari Enzo and its track-biased FXX sibling are hard to get excited about. With price tags well beyond the reaches of most mere mortals and styling that’s avant garde at best and batshit insane at worst, it’s easy enough not to care. But dammit, those red cars are hard to resist when you see and hear them them on the move, much less get behind the wheel. And the race car howl from an FXX caught on video is no exception.

Our favourite tree-dwelling car snapper, Hans G. Lehmann, has been out and about with the wide angle lens again. This time, it’s US mag MPH picking up the bill for his pics of Ferrari’s next front engine flagship. As MPH points out, this is no chopped and hacked mule based on the 612 Scaglietti. It’s a bone fide development prototype carrying the final sheet metal for the 575 Maranello replacement.

Four the record , haw haw (you’re fired - Ed), Ferrari have filed a patent for a novel AWD transmission. The system is designed for use on front-engined cars and could appear on the 612 Scaglietti and the upcoming 600 Imola/Testarossa flagship.

Legendary Italian car designer Giorgietto Giugiaro has prepared a Ferrari concept for the Tokyo motorshow (starts tomorrow, kids!). The GG50 is based on a shortened Ferrari 612 Scaglietti platform and is a typical modern front-engined Fezza design – it’s a little bit fugly.

A modified Ferrari Enzo has been pictured banging in laps at Ferrari’s Fiorino test track. It could be the first sighting of Italian outfit’s next supercar.

Ferrari’s upcoming front-engine flagship has been snapped on test in Italy. The car is due out in 2006 - that’s fully 10 years after the 550 Maranello first appeared.
