Crusty old form factors like C-segment saloons may be dying a slow, undignified death at the hands of MPV and crossover upstarts. But the hatchback is alive and kicking in 2006. VW, Honda, Renault and Volvo are all keeping the hot hatch real at the Paris show…

More refined but no quicker than the outgoing model. And available with dual-zone air con and cruise control. Not quite the road-racing repertoire you might expect from a new ricer-ready Type-R model from Honda (that’s enough r’s, Ed)…

After last month’s picture leakage comes the official outpouring of images and tech specs for the new Honda CR-V. The Japanese outfit reckons the refreshed compact SUV offers a driving experience as good as a D-sector saloon car as well as improved off-road capabilities…

No technical details have been released as yet. But in the mean time point your peepers at these first leaked images of Honda’s next CR-V mid-sized SUV. The most significant styling cue is probably the slopping side window, no doubt designed to give the car a more dynamic profile. However, there’s also more than a hint of Volvo XC-90 in them there tail lights…

Few surprises, here. The mid-90s concept car aesthetic of the fivedoor Civic has survived
the transition to a three-door form factor. The model’s defining
exterior detail is probably the aggressively raked windscreen. But the
unashamedly techno vibe of the wrap-around interior is our favourite
feature. It’s the sort of cabin that makes you want to fire the engine
up and give the car a vicious spanking. The Type-R is going to be an
absolute riot…

In keeping with the current tradition of robbing motor show debutants of any real surprise factor, Honda has lifted the lid on the new three-door Civic. Scheduled to be unveiled at the British International Motor Show next month, the new model gets a sportier chassis than its five-door sibling and goes on sale in January 2007. Meanwhile, Honda has also dished out preliminary tech specs for the Civic Type-R…

A litany of new car launches at a British motor show? Who’d a thunk it. Joining the list of London debutants is the new British-built three-door Civic. The new model, including the rev-tastic Type-R hot hatch, will be shown alongside the recently released five-door variant and the new Legend luxo barge. For now, Honda is keeping the standard three-door Civic under wraps. But since the Type-R concept displayed at the Geneva show earlier this year uses the three-door shell, there won’t be many surprises when the wraps come off next month…

The S2000 is dead. Long live the S2000. So says no less an august publication than the UK’s Autocar Magazine. This week, Autocar reports that Honda has recently hatched plans to launch a replacement for the six-year-old roadster. The magazine reckons that until recently the Japanese outfit had no plans to replace the S2000. There’s just one problem with this otherwise compelling story – it’s not news. Honda’s chairman of research and development, Motoatsu Shiraishi, went on the record back in October last year, as we reported, promising replacements for both the S2000 and the NSX…

Badge snobbery is a peculiarly British disease. So, despite Honda’s
undoubted technological prowess, the Japanese outfit has usually
struggled to find homes in the UK for its premium products. Which in
turn explains why it hasn’t bothered to offer the Legend luxo barge in Blighty since 2001. And is no doubt also the reason why Honda reckons it
will offload just 400 examples a year of the all-new Legend, which goes
on sale this September for £36,250. Of course, the absence of a diesel
engine option hardly helps. Nevertheless, the question remains: For
just 400 units a year, can it possibly be worth the hassle of shipping
Legends to the UK, tooling up for the sales brochures, prepping dealers and
all that jazz?

A show car in theory. But surely the real production deal won’t be all that different. Honda presented the Civic Type-R concept at Geneva on Tuesday. And there was much rejoicing.

Just what is Honda doing spending millions developing a humanoid robot? And what exactly is its relevance to a car news website? These questions, and more, will not be answered after the jump. But you still don’t want to miss the totally mesmerising videos of the latest ASIMO bot sprinting around in circles, sharing a coffee or two with a few terminally polite Honda employees and generally doing its freakily anthropomorphic thing.

Apparently there’s a price war going on in continental Europe. Margins and profits are being eroded, with Renault, Honda, Peugeot and Fiat all complaining of a poor pricing environment. Try telling that to your average car buyer in “Rip Off” Britain…

Honda’s chairman of research and development, Motoatsu Shiraishi, has confirmed that both the NSX and S200 will be replaced within the next few years. And guess what? The new NSX will be an all singing, all dancing supercar designed to showcase Honda’s engineering skills and take the fight directly to Porsche and Ferrari. In other news, day followed night and George W Bush announced a war on terror.
