Geneva preview: Lambo bad boy

Spare a thought for Lamborghini. What with the Pagani Zonda F, the Big Bad Bug, Porsche’s Carrera GT and the old enemy Ferrari going strong, not to mention the likes of the Koenigsegg CCX, supercar makers have to get up awfully early in the morning to make an impression these days. Indeed, the competition is now so hot that not even 631bhp is enough to allow this evil new Lambo to bust any top speed or acceleration records. But who cares, because the  Murcielago LP640 is the baddest looking boy in town…

Old clothes for new Miura (UPDATED)

We’d heard a new Miura was on the cards. And the rumour was that it would be faithful to the 1966 original. But we weren’t expecting a Ford GT-style resurrection. However, that’s exactly what Lambo have produced with this new show car, known as the P400 Miura Concept 2006.

Rear-wheel drive Gallardo confirmed

Great car, the Gallardo. But thanks to that four-wheel drivetrain, most think it’s a little too safe and secure to be a classic Lambo. That all-weather tackle also helps to push the car’s kerbweight over the 1,500kg mark.  What we really want is an edgier, lighter, rear-wheel-drive-only Gallardo. And that’s exactly what we’re going to get, according to Lamborghini’s head Honcho Stephan Winkelmann.

A cut-price Lamborghini Gallardo powered by the 4.2-litre, 414bhp V8 found in the Audi RS4 is on the cards. The really interesting bit is that the car will be rear rather than four-wheel-drive as for all current Gallardos. Better late than never…

Is building new brands better?

The global car industry is up poo creek without a paddle. That is not news. But a recent article in The Economist about its woes is still worth a read. And a timely reminder (mentioning no names – cough – Bugatti) that recycling dead or dying brands probably isn’t worth the bother.
