In the grand old US of A, Toyota’s luxury brand sweeps all asunder. But it hasn’t really hit critical mass in Europe. Odds are it will soon enough if Lexus' aggressive product plans are anything to go by. Following the well received IS-F V8 compact sports saloon, Lexus will also unleash a speedy ‘F’ derivative of the mid-sized GS luxury barge along with a new compact model that slots in below the IS and will take on BMW’s increasingly successful 1 Series. Needless to say, more hybrid Lexi are on the way, too…

If the LF-A supercar is a taste of what Lexus is planning for the future, the IS-F is the first tangible example of the brand’s effort to establish serious performance car cred. It’s due out around spring 2007. It’s the world’s first petrol-electic hybrid vehicle with a V8 powerplant. It cranks out a combined peak power output of over 430bhp. And Toyota claims it’s nothing less than the most technically advanced car in the world. We give you the new Lexus LS600h luxury saloon. But here’s the catch: Lexus has so far declined to divulge precise fuel consumption figures. Suspicious? Perhaps, given the fact that the suits from Toyota will only hint at a number around the 25mpg mark…

Here’s a shock. A bona fide new car debut at the Detroit show that hadn’t been leaked during the run up. Except, of course, Lexus has already shown the new LS, albeit slightly disguised as the LF-Sh concept car, back at the Tokyo show.

A new LS is the only piece missing from Lexus’ “L-Finesse” model range puzzle. But this LF-Sh concept, unveiled at the Tokyo show today, is surely the new LS by another name.

Reports that Toyota’s slick Lexus LF-A front-engined supercar concept is running a V10 have reached critical mass. But will the production version appear at this month’s Tokyo show? And will the car be branded Toyota or Lexus? Update: Toyota has also announced a flagship Lexus saloon concept for the Tokyo show, very likely a thinly disguised new LS.
