Newswheel staff :: 29 April 2008 :: Filed under Coupe, Peugeot, Peugeot 308
With an interior straight out of the 308 hatch and a generally production-ready vibe, we always had a feeling Peugeot was being a rather coy by calling the RC Z a concept. Sure enough, Pug has confirmed this dramatic-looking coupe will hit show rooms in 2010…

The original eighties Golf GTi spawned the cult of the hot hatch. On that we can surely all agree. But it was Peugeot’s 1.6 and 1.9 205 GTIs which came to define the genre. Cat-flap-in-a-tornado build quality aside, the 205 GTI remains one of the great drives. Not something you can say about the manifestly mundane 206, a car which tore up the rally scene but never came close to the impact or status of its 205 predecessor on Real Street. What hope, therefore for the 207? Well, the hottest 207 has yet to be released. But warmed-over new 207 GT has arrived…

With the Paris motor show approaching, the concept cars are coming
thick and fast. Today’s effort is this coupe-cabriolet from Peugeot
based on the new 207 hatchback. Although the car’s sci-fi fuel cell
powertrain is an unlikely candidate for production, there’s little
doubting that, styling-wise, you’re looking at the new folding-hardtop
equipped 207 CC…

A carbon chassis and a rear-mounted, wide-angle V12 turbo diesel kicking out 700bhp. Oh, and a top speed in excess of 300kph. Call us a bunch of weather-beaten, cynical old hacks. But if Peugeot ever builds anything that even remotely resembles this new diesel powered super-saloon concept we’ll happily guzzle the contents of a worn out Halfords car battery, circa 1984…

Newswheel staff :: 11 July 2006 :: Filed under Hatchback, Peugeot, Peugeot 207, Europe & UK
Peugeot UK has come clean with pricing and tech specs for the upcoming 207 GT warm hatch. The new model’s 1.6-litre turbocharged lump packs 150bhp and 180lb/ft and is the product of a joint venture between PSA Peugeot Citroen and BMW. Codenamed Prince, the all-alloy unit benefits from a number of BMW’s most advanced engine technologies including Valvetronic variable valve timing (limited to the intake valves) and direct injection and will soon be finding its way into the second gen BMW Mini…

We’ll make a modest start to our coverage of the offensive display of conspicuous consumption that is the 2006 Geneva Motor Show with Pug’s new baby, the 207…

File this under plausible but uncertain. Those crazy German cats over at Auto Motor und Sport have apparently bagged official images of the Peugeot 308.

Newswheel staff :: 05 January 2006 :: Filed under Hatchback, Peugeot, Peugeot 207, Europe & UK,
Compared with past glories, Peugeot’s current range of hatchbacks are pretty ordinary (oh 205, we still miss you). So, you’ll forgive us for being less than jazzed by the release of the first official images of the 207. The appearance of Peugeot’s current corporate front end on the new hatch, complete with that ludicrously large grille, doesn’t exactly help…

It’s hardly a surprise. But it’s still disappointing to see Peugeot’s gormless new corporate-grille-plus-slanty-eye-headlight visage grafted onto the upcoming 207.

Apparently there’s a price war going on in continental Europe. Margins and profits are being eroded, with Renault, Honda, Peugeot and Fiat all complaining of a poor pricing environment. Try telling that to your average car buyer in “Rip Off” Britain…

Hands up those who thought the Peugeot 407’s elephantine front grille was its finest stylistic feature…Nope, we didn’t think so either. So, we’re not crazy about the idea of grafting it onto the pretty 307 hatchback.
