Let’s be honest. MB’s SLR supercoupe doesn’t really add up. Perhaps it’s the gloopy, unsubtle ‘90s concept car styling. Or maybe the torque-converter gearbox which belies its supercar pretensions. And what about the hair-trigger brakes? Whatever, the SLR is neither fish nor foul, sportscar nor luxury coupe. MB is prepping upgrades for its carbon-fibre colossus, the SLR. The power output of the blown AMG V8 is expected to be cranked up from 626 frisky ponies to a fulsome 650 horses (of the Euro PS sort). Additional tweaks for the 2007 SLR “Sportpack” include a revised interior, fettled brakes, a new wheel design and a 40kg reduction in overall weight.
