Forget the new Turbo, real men drive GT3s
Porsche hasn’t announced a going-live date for the hard-as-nails new
911 GT3. But after today we fancy it might be sooner rather than later.
The pupils of everything Porsche over at Rennlist have uncovered a copy
of the GT3’s glossy brochure thang. So, that’s full 415bhp-and-the-rest
tech specs and a whole bunch of juicy images.
The headline 415bhp figure is squeezed out by the GT3’s 3.6-litre flat-six at 7,600rpm, translating into a specific output of no less than 115bhp per litre. As for torquage, you’re looking at 299lb/ft at a predictably lofty 5,500rpm. The new unit is dry sump-lubed, hooked up to the rear wheels via a manual six-speed box and redlined at 8,400rpm.
Chuck in the 1,395 kerb weight and Porsche is claiming performance numbers of 4.3 seconds to 62mph and 8.7 to 100mph. Don’t be surprised to see several tenths shaved off those times in the hands of brutal clutch-popping journos. And top speed? A modest 193mph.
For the seriously hardcore, Porsche will offer a Clubsport option which adds carbon buckets, a roll cage, six-point harnesses, a fire extinguisher and apparently padded doors - the better to impale yourself upon in the event of a car / scenery interface. 13.8-inch steel discs are the standard anchor option with those love ‘em or hate ‘em carbon items optional. The final issue of note is the appearance of PASM stability control on the spec list. Without burying ourselves in the whole electronic driver aids debate, let’s just say we reckon track-day junkies will be hoping Porsche has provided a full-on kill switch.

As for the GT3’s lines, they’re as lean, mean and oh-so-keen as you could possibly hope for. The 997 vintage 911 may be a tough car to really love for its styling, but if the GT3’s weapons-grade chic doesn’t give you the horn then call for the medics. The wheel-arch-buffing ride height alone is enough to make grown men weep. So, just a single, crucial detail remains clouded in mystery: the wheel design. Oh, and the minor matter of how the damn thing drives…

Hop on over to Rennlist for the full GT3 brochure action.
Update:
February 28th is the day: Porsche has announced that the GT3 will be unwrapped at the Geneva show alongside the new Turbo.
