Ascari A10: More power (and paint)

Road racer gets tweaked engine and dodgy paint job
A 5-litre V8, 500bhp, 1,300kg, and 200mph. That’s the Ascari KZ1 supercar. And apparently it’s not enough for some. “Nay,” they said, “we want a lighter, more powerful, faster version”. And so it came to pass that the Banbury-based outfit recently announced 50 super-special A10s with deliveries commencing Summer ‘06…
Producing an ungodly 600bhp from its uprated 5-litre V8, the 1,280kg A10 is currently undergoing rigorous testing and should manage an Enzo-eating 220mph for an Enzo-esque price of £350,000. Essentially a road-going version of the company’s Spanish Championship GTA-class racer, the A10 features a six-speed manual as standard, a sequential transmission as an option plus a six-piece carbon fibre body, a fixed rear wing and a distinctive headlight configuration. As such the A10 could prove to be a head-turner, assuming you can turn your head fast enough.
Of the earlier KZ1 the company says, “The idea was for a road-going sports car based on racing technology.” Of the new A10 it says “This car’s roots are in the racetrack making it a truly inspiring driving machine, yet refined enough by design to be driven every day as a supercar." So, there you have it. Whichever way you slice it, you get an Ascari that’s inspired by racing, to a great or an even greater extent. Whether you’re so keen on racing that you can stomach the ghastly track-day paint job, however, is less certain.
