Just another drop in the Audi deluge

A trio of V10 mega-models including a mid-engined supercar. An uber SUV. And a mid-sized concept-turned-reality coupe (that’ll be the Nuvolari-inspired A5 coupe). These are just a few of Audi’s recent and upcoming efforts. Oh yes, the German outfit just keeps cranking out fancy new metal. But perhaps the most important model Audi will launch this year, at least in terms of setting out Audi’s style stall, is the new TT. And now the word has come down: it’ll be unveiled at a trio of big money launch parties in Berlin, London and NYC on April 6th…

While we’d hate to poop on Audi’s party before it’s even begun, here’s the thing. Currently available spy shots of the new car reveal a rather predictable and not terribly dramatic update. But then, matching the wow factor of the original car was always going to be a toughie. Whatever, it is known that the new TT will be bigger all round than the existing car – and no doubt heavier, too – and will take it styling cues, if not all of the lush detailing, from the TT Shooting Brake concept from the Tokyo show. Just don’t expect the Shooting Brake’s near-vertical rear hatch to make an appearance. The new TT’s tailgate will be the same sloping affair as old – to begin with at least…
