BMW backtracks with manual tranny for M5

Manual M6 on the way?
It should have been this way from the beginning. But BMW has finally caved in to customer demand and announced a manual transmission for the M5 saloon. The irony, of course, is that it’s customer demand in the slushbox-loving US of A that has forced BMW’s hand…
For now, there’s no official word on European availability for the new no-cost manual option, but we’ll ping BMW UK for data just as soon as the sun comes up. In the mean time, safe to speculate that the M6 coupé is also a prime candidate for the manual treatment. After all, both cars share an identical drivetrain.
Whatever, the manual M5 gets a self-adjusting clutch, ensuring consistent pedal effort over its operating life, and a dual-mass, hydraulically damped flywheel. So there.
Watch this space for details of UK and Euro availability.

I am totally in love with both the car and the Newswheel staff writers who brought it to our attention.
I have been saving for years - and I think this car could be the one.
