Citroën unveils C-Métisse high performance enviro-friendly concept car

High performance. Low emissions. But not ready for the road
Citroën has taken the wraps off its latest diesel-electric concept car, the C-Métisse. Powered by essentially the same powertrain as the C4 HDi concept shown earlier in ’06, the new show car boasts carbon-fibre construction and delivers 45mpg on the combined cycle as well as a top speed of 155mph and 6.2 second zero-to-62mph sprint…
Of course, the C-Métisse’s raison d’etre is to showcase Citroën’s hybrid drivetrain tech. So, that’s a blown 208bhp diesel V6 engine powering the front wheels, a pair of ‘leccy motors fitted to the rear wheels and a high capacity battery pack mounted centrally. Each of the supplemental motors can provide up to 20bhp and 295lb/ft allowing for both boosted acceleration and short distance jaunts in electric-only mode. The concept’s all up weight is 1,400kg which is either impressive for a car with so much kit or a rather worrying considering the carbon-fibre body. A production car built from less exotic materials would no doubt be a bit of a bloater.
Styling-wise, the C-Métisse treads the increasingly popular four-door coupe path and sports the usual fancy-but-utterly-frivolous concept car accoutrements including gullwing doors and a suitably over the top alloy ‘n leather interior.
The C-Métisse will be on show in Paris from the 28th September.
