Citroen wheels out C4 Picasso

Another seven-seater impressionist
Citroen has fired off the first salvo of PR snaps and verbiage for the new C4 Picasso compact SUV prior to the car’s official launch in September. The design ethic for the latest Picasso sticks with Citroen’s contemporary but somewhat discombobulated family look. A huge, panoramic windscreen that cuts into the roof and doubles vertical visibility for front seat passengers is probably the car’s numero uno party trick.
As ever with this class of car, the interior is truly tardis-like. There’s seating for seven and generally a crap-load of elbow room for such a modestly proportioned vehicle. Unsurprisingly, Citroen claims class-leading legroom.

The seven seat config is no surprise. But scope out those front seat bolsters. Designed for dropping the kids off at the pool and hitting the track? Probably not
Storage space, meanwhile, clocks in at 576 litres with the car in five-seat configuration. For the record, the C4 Picasso is precisely 4.59m long, 1.83m wide and 1.66m high. The usual folding seat gymnastics, zonal aircon, soundproofed windows and air quality sensors round out the comfort-orientated cabin spec. Oh, and there’s also a new mood lighting system. Over to Citroen’s PR bunnies for an explanation of this one:
“Light guides’ under the front fascia, in the door panels and in the headlining diffuse soft, ambient light inside the vehicle.”
Quite. The lighting system also boasts sensors in the door panels that detect when you are fishing around for gubbins and react by shedding light on the dingy orifice.
As for the engine line-up, it’s three strong including a 143bhp four-pot 2.0-litre petrol lump and a pair of diesels in 110bhp and 138bhp trim. A six-speed electric cog-swapper will be offered as an optional extra.
The C4 Picasso makes its public debut at the Paris show in September. No word on UK pricing and availability as yet. Over and out.
