Fezza fantastic
Ok, it’s not a bona fide series production Ferrari. And it is a vanity project on a colossal scale. But it’s also based on pure Enzo mechanicals and was designed, engineered and hand built by none other than Pininfarina. Give it up, therefore, for the Ferrari P4/5…
As we reported back in March, the multi-million dollar, one-off P4/5 was commissioned and bankrolled by American movie mogul James Glickenhaus. The idea behind the project was simple enough – to fuse the stylistic essence of classic sport racing cars from Ferrari’s history (including the 330 P3/4, circa 1967) with modern underpinnings from Fezza’s current flagship road car, the Enzo.
In practice, however, the project was much more than cut-and-shut quickie. Every body panel is new, over 200 bespoke engineered components were created and the vast majority of the Enzo’s interior has been replaced. What’s more, to ensure that Glickenhaus’s brief for a usable, fully-developed supercar was met, Pininfarina knocked up plastic wind tunnel model and conducted extensive aero efficiency and stability tests.

The result of both Glickenhaus’s and Pininfarina’s attention to detail is a car that’s both lighter (to the tune of around 200kg) and more aerodynamically efficient than a stock Enzo. It’s also the fully-finished, road-going article complete with air conditioning, an iPod Nano-based music system, a full roll cage and enough luggage space – apparently – to keep Mrs Glickenhaus happy. However, final proof of the quality of the project comes courtesy of tacit approval from Ferrari. Although the entire project was conducted without the participation of Ferrari HQ, such is the quality of the car the mothership has permitted the use of the Ferrari name and prancing horse insignia.
The P4/5 will be making its public debut at the lavish festival of crazy-money cars that is the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance later in August.
