Twin-turbo, rear-drive beastie goes legit
In a rather inevitable move following the recent leak of tech specs and images from an official brochure, Porsche has done the sensible thing and released details and images of the upcoming GT2 flagship variant of the 911 range. In typical GT2 fashion, Porsche has turned up the wick on the boost and ditched drive to the front wheels…
The headline numbers from the twin-turbo flat six include peak power of 530 ponies and 505lb/ft of twistage from a startlingly low 2,200rpm all the way to 4,500rpm. The latter is in part courtesy of a pair of advanced variable-turbine-geometry blowers.
Whatever, combined with a claimed kerb weight of 1,440kg it’s enough for 60mph and 100mph sprints of just 3.6 seconds and 7.4 seconds, respectively. The GT2’s top speed cracks the all important 200mph barrier to the tune of 4mph.
A six-cog manual box feeds power to the rear boots – there’s no mention, as yet, of Porsche’s hotly anticipated dual-clutch robot box. Other highlights include 19-inch rims, carbon-ceramic brakes, and a three-stage ‘PASM’ traction control system - stage one kills stability control, stage two switches off traction control and the final stage leaves interfering in the melding of man and machine.
The GT2 will take its official bow at the Frankfurt show in September. There’s no news, for now, of official pricing.
In a word, yum.
