…well, they’re teaming up to build small cars, anyway

Ford and Fiat. Fiat and Ford. Peas in a pod? Time will tell following an official announcement this week that the two companies will be working together on a new small car project.

Both the next Ford Ka and the new-age Fiat Cinquecento will be based on a modified Fiat Panda platform. What’s more, it’s also rumoured that Fiat subsidiary Lancia will be bagging Ford ‘s C1 chassis (which forms the basis of the Focus) for use on the next gen Delta. Of course, with Fiat only recently disentangled from a wide ranging deal with GM, you might wonder what has motivated Ford to settle for GM’s sloppy seconds. But never mind, let’s just hope that the production Cinquecento does justice to the rather lovely concept car.
