Huge Hummer for under $30k

It's a whole lot of metal for your money
In Britain, £15,000 buys you a mean and miserable family hatchback. Well, we wouldn’t actually call a 2-litre Ford Focus miserable, but it’s not exactly the last word in feel-good motoring either. Over in the States, however, $30,000 is serious money for buying motors. Sticking with Ford for a moment, $30k will buy you a full-on, pimped-out V8 Mustang with all the trimmings. The entry level V6 starts at $19,000, for God’s sake.
But the new Hummer H3 surely delivers the ultimate road-borne bang for your buck. Try this for size: in excess of two tonnes (4,700lbs to be precise) of rootin', tootin' Hummer heat can be yours for a preposterously parsimonious $29,500. OK, it might be little more than a rebodied GM pickup. By US standards the 3.5-litre, 220hp V6 may be thoroughly anaemic. It’s probably cheap enough to ruin the Hummer brand in the long run. And it’s about as subtle as a kick to the groin. But if you feel the need to impress/intimidate the neighbours on a budget, the H3 is the weapon of choice for now.
