Infiniti heads for Europe

But not until 2008
For a world class outfit like the Renault / Nissan alliance, the lack
of a premium brand in the European market is something of a gaping
wound in its product portfolio. So, we’ll file the announcement that
the Infiniti luxury brand is heading for Europe in 2008 under better
late than never…
Nissan wheeled out the first Infiniti models in the US and Canada back in 1989 and now flogs the marque in Taiwan, Korea and the Middle East, to boot. Infiniti has yet to match the crushing success of Toyota’s rival luxury brand, Lexus, in the US. But Renault / Nissan’s head honcho Carlos Ghosn reckons Infiniti is “the fastest-growing luxury brand in the US and one that is recognised globally for its blend of design, performance and luxury. We are now ready to bring this unique brand to consumers in Europe.” Oh, happy days.
No details have been divulged regarding precisely which models will be offered in Europe. But the mid-size M and compact G models, along with the FX SUV, are easily the most attractive of Infiniti’s current bunch. The chintzy Q limo we can live without.
The announcement also very likely represents an end to rumours involving Renault /Nissan relieving Ford of the Jaguar brand.
Those Infiniti models in full:

The FX SUV…

…the mid-sized M…

…the full house, V8-powered Q…

…and the compact BMW-bashing G.
