New rival for Porsche, AMG and BMW M Power
A supercharged 400bhp “R” version of the XK coupe and cabriolet will appear before the end of 2006. That much we already know. But the latest innuendo on the interweb indicates that Jag is working on an even pokier derivative designed to take on the Porsche 911. Er…good luck with that one, Jaguar.
According to WhatCar mag, Jaguar insiders aren’t ready to talk specifics regarding power outputs. But they are apparently confident the new XK can be moulded into a serious rival for the 911. Of course, you might think that Jag would be better off setting its sights on the Mercedes SL and BMW 6 Series. Especially considering that Jaguar’s parent company Ford already has a purpose built 911 rival in the Aston Martin Vantage. But fortunately for you, somebody else already has the job of running Jaguar into the ground.
Whatever, this uber XK is all part of a new performance brand from Jaguar which has yet to be named but is expected to extend throughout the Jag range à la Merc AMG or BMW M Power. Likewise, launch dates are currently an unknown.
