Lambo’s sales success

Bullish outlook for raging sports cars
Sales up by 45 per cent year-on-year for the Jan to June 2006 period. That’s a significant success for Lamborghini by any measure and confirmation that membership of the sprawling VW empire is suiting the the Italian sports car outfit rather nicely…
As ever, the real cash cow for the Italian bull is the US of A, where sales are up by 68 per cent for the same period. In the UK, meanwhile, Lambo’s numbers improved by a healthy 41.4 per cent. Lamborghini points to a wider model range and a bump in dealership numbers as the co-conspirators responsible for the marque’s improved fortunes.
But let’s not get carried away, folks. Big percentage increases are always easier when you’re starting from a low base. And despite the relative success of recent years, Lambo’s sales have been more ground zero than twin towers. The Murcielago, for instance, has never topped 40 units in a single year in Blighty, while the Gallardo dropped below 60 cars last year. Meanwhile, arch rival Ferrari has been racking up UK sales in the 300 to 500 range for the Ferrari 360 and later F430 mid-engined sportsters and the outgoing Porsche 911 turbo is a 500 unit per annum motor.
