New AMG V8 finds yet another home
It’s hardly a surprising move. But it could produce a world beating package. Mercedes-Benz has shoe horned AMG’s new naturally aspirated V8 powerhouse into the sleek CL coupe. The CL63 joins the increasingly impressive list of Paris show debutants due to be unveiled at the end of the month…

The headline tech specs for the CL-specific installation of AMG’s all-alloy, 6.2-litre V8 are 523bhp at 6,800 rpm and 467lb/ft at 5,200rpm. That’s sufficient, reckons M-B, to propel the CL63 to 62mph in 4.6 seconds. As ever, top speed is an electronically limited 155mph. Despite the impressive on-paper performance, it will be interesting to see how the AMG naturally-aspirated engine copes with the CL’s not inconsiderable tonnage. It will certainly be a different driving experience to the effortless low-rev shove delivered by AMG’s outgoing supercharged units.

Anywho, the CL63 naturally benefits from the full panoply of Mercedes electrickery including the ABC active suspension system, PRE-SAFE braking and DISTRONIC PLUS cruise control. AMG also adds uprated brakes and the obligatory styling kit and outsized rims to complete the package.
Meanwhile…M-B will also being showing off other new members of its passenger car range at the Paris show including the four-wheel drive S-Class 4MATIC and the McLaren SLR 722 Edition. Over and out.
