Corvette power for composite-body sports cars
Marcos has fleshed out its TSO range of sports cars with the addition of the GTC and R/T coupe and targa-topped models. Both cars were unveiled at the swanktastic Salon Prive private car show held at the Hurlingham Club in Fulham earlier this week…
Power for the GTC and R/T comes courtesy of an all-alloy, 6.0-litre push rod Chevy V8. Yup, it’s ye olde Corvette lump, tuned to deliver 420bhp or 462bhp with Marcos’s optional Performance Pack. Combined with the lightweight composite body and spaceframe chassis construction, the more powerful engine hurls the TSO to 60mph in just 4.1 seconds and keeps on trucking up to 185mph. 340mm AP Racing anchors keep the whole shebang in check and contribute to a 0-100-0mph time of 12.9 clicks.
As for handling prowess, the suspension has been fine tuned by race and rally specialist Prodrive, which is also responsible for engineering and manufacturing the car’s spaceframe chassis. Marcos reckons GTC and R/T are “the most refined and advanced cars Marcos has ever built. They boast 149 improvements over their predecessor, including a lighter stiffer body shell and chassis, new drivetrain and fuel delivery system and more interior room.”
The TSO GTC coupe kicks off at £49,950 and comes as standard with an aggressive chassis setup and rear diffuser. The R/T targa - more accurately a t-bar arrangement with two removable roof panels - is yours for £53,950 and sports a more forgiving touring chassis setup, cargo nets and “premium sound”. Blonde bimbos, however, are conspicuous by their absence from the options list.
For those of you across the pond, Marcos has not announced plans to flog the new TSO sportsters Stateside.
