Mercedes SLK facelift: goodbye mini-SLR

Beaky bonnet ditched
Love it or loathe it, it seems the end is nigh for the SLK’s F1-inspired, SLR-derived bonnet and grille treatment. Word comes down today from Germany’s Auto Strassenverkehr magazine that MB has decided to take the laser to the roadster’s protruding nasal implement in favour of a new treatment more in keeping with MB’s recent offerings…
Also expected to accompany the new look is an uprated V6 mill for the SLK 350. Power will reportedly swell from the current car’s 268bhp output to a fulsome 292bhp. Of course, the real headline generator is the hotly anticipated SLK 63 AMG. Though still unconfirmed, replacing the current SLK 55 AMG with a car based on AMG’s awesome new naturally aspirated V8 is widely regarded as a no brainer. A 6.3-litre, 510bhp SLK? Should be quite nippy…
