New Vectra: bagged and verily tagged

Sleeker, snazzier

Mass-market, mid-sized saloons ain’t exactly money spinners anymore. In Europe, compact execs like BMW’s 3 and the Audi A4 have become today’s high-volume repmobiles. But Opel / Vauxhall’s upcoming Vectra is still an important design and technology bellwether for the company. It will also lend its underpinnings to a wide range of GM vehicles around the world from Saturn to Saab…
Despite the obligatory battle camo, the new Vectra’s threads are clearly sleeker and snazzier than the existing model. Dare we say it, with a sweeping roofline and coupe-like profile it probably has the aesthetic measure of Ford’s latest Mondeo.
Underneath, the latest Vectra packs GM’s new Epsilon II platform, which will no doubt find its way into upcoming Saab vehicles, among others. Tech specs are unknown as yet, but expect the usual off-the-shelf GM powerplants to be plonked therein.
The new Vectra will very probably be wheeled out at the Frankfurt motor show in September. Hop on over to LeftLane for the full compliment of snaps.
