Newswheel @ the British Motor Show: Noble M15

Really rather sexy
When Noble originally wheeled out the M15 as the replacement for the stillborn M14 mid-engined sportster, well, let’s just say we weren’t exactly whelmed. But now that we’ve seen the M15 in the GRP we’ve a confession to make. It’s not half as hideous as we’d thought…

We take it (mostly) all back. Stylin-wise, the Noble M15 has its moments
The first thing that strikes is the impressive build quality. It’s beautifully bolted together, inside and out, and seems worth every penny of the projected £75,000 asking price. The sharpness of the body creases and general quality of the panels do nothing to betray the M15’s GRP construction. In general, it looks low, lithe and ready for serious action. There’s some superb detailing too, notably the rear assembly that includes a pair of purposeful looking - but not OTT - pipes, a large venturi and a partially exposed diff.

Hmmm, exposed alloy: The M15 has some really rather ravishing detailing
Inside, minimalism is the order of the day, though the virtually featureless fascia may be too much of a good thing. Still, if weapons-grade functionality is your bag, you’ll enjoy the Noble’s snug cockpit. With the show car’s all-black colour coding and tiny side window apertures, the M15 also has a fairly funky Batmobile interior vibe going on. More mundane machinery such as a Porker 911 doesn’t come close in terms of feel good factor behind the wheel - dodgy air vents and gear knob apparently rescued from a Mondeo wage-slave saloon, notwithstanding.

Snug as a bug in an M15: Noble’s range-topper is seriously cosy inside
Of course, the M15 is far from perfect. The wheels are still naff, it’s at least a little ill-proportioned from most angles and your average Fezza fancier wouldn’t touch it with an extremely large platinum card. But maybe that’s all part of the appeal. The M15 is another Noble that will be bought for driving thrills and not just for show. Long may it continue.
