No more good looking Lambos?

Donckerwolke replaced by Da Silva as head designer
Worrying news for Lamborgini fans. The man responsible for the stunning Gallardo and Murcielago models, Luc Donckerwolke, is leaving the company. And his replacement? None other than current Audi design chief (the Butcher of Ingolstadt, as we shall refer to him from now on) Walter Da Silva…
In an ironic twist, Donckerwolke is heading over to Da Silva’s old stomping ground, Seat, with a remit to sort out the sorry state of the Spanish company’s design language. Of course, it’s Da Silva himself who is responsible for the ridiculously similar-looking current range of Seats (see our story comparing the styling of Leon, Altea and Toledo here). And he’s also the man we blame for Audi’s abandonment of confident minimalism in favour of big grilles and lots of chintz.
In short, he’s a man with a disturbing fetish for ranges of identi-kit cars with large, gaping grilles. Our nightmare, therefore, is that Da Silva will begin pushing through a fleet on mono-grilled, uni-styled Lambos as soon as possible. Of course, the merciful reality is that Donckerwolke has probably signed off the replacements for both the Gallardo and the Murcielago. The next generation of Lambos, we therefore pray, will be safe from Da Silva’s butchery. But after that…be afraid, be very afraid.
