Land Rover leakage
More PR snaps of the upcoming second-gen Freelander are floating around the wibbly wobbly web. Following a private preview session for customers in the UK, detailed specifications also appear to have leaked from the Land Rover mothership…
Engine options for the Freelander 2 are expected to be topped by a Volvo-sourced 3.2-litre six-pot cranking out 230bhp. That’s enough for a zero to 62mph sprint in 8.9 clicks. A 2.2-litre diesel lump good for 158bhp and 295lb/ft is also pencilled in for an appearance. The new Freelander’s underpinnings are thought to be provided by the latest Focus chassis. Full disclosure of the new entry-level Landie is expected at the London motor show in July.
Meanwhile, Land Rover reportedly invited a select few potential customers to sample the new compact SUV earlier this month. According to an attendee, the Freelander 2 has seriously raised its game in terms of build and material quality. It’s also been revealed that the car’s off-road Terrain Response system will offer all modes except Rock Crawl. As for on-road performance, the new ute is said to lap the Nurburgring just three seconds slower than the supercharged Range Rover Sport. Impressive.
