Opel / Vauxhall Corsa five-door: first pictures

It's not like the three-door, um-kay?
Stylish, spacious and dynamic to drive. Fun, funky and family-friendly. This, friends, is the new Corsa. Or so says the alliteration-saturated press bumpf provided by GM. Whatever, the new Corsa is bigger in every dimension compared with its predecessor, which is entirely predictable, and offers a unique rear luggage system called DualFloor, which isn’t…

As for the finer details on DualFloor, we’ll leave that to the superior intellects at GM:
“The excellent luggage space comes thanks to a clever new system known as ‘DualFloor’, where the load bay can be set on two different height levels thanks to a removable top floor panel. When removed, the top panel can be used as a vertical divider to separate the load bay into two sections, helping to prevent shopping from rolling around the load bay.”

FlexFit should make the new Corsa a hit with sailing enthusiasts (er, cycling enthusiasts, shurely? Ed)
Another storage and stowage innovation making its debut on the Corsa is FlexFit, an integrated carrier system that’s pulled out from the rear bumper of the car like a drawer and can safely carry two bicycles, yet completely retracts into the bumper when not in use. The precise pros and cons of both FlexFit and DualFloor we dare not speculate upon until we’ve sampled them first hand. Suffice to say for now that the Corsa appears to continue Opel / Vauxhall’s traditional leadership in interior packaging and storage management innovation.

What’s more, we’re also happy to confirm that GM’s claims of a distinct identity for the more practical five-door model ring true. As with its bigger Astra brethren, the three-door Corsa cuts a reasonably dynamic and coupe-like dash.

Corsas three and five-door compared
As for engines, the five-door Corsa’s line up will exactly mirror its three-door sibling. So, that’s 1.0, 1.2 and 1.4-litre petrol lumps, a 1.3-litre CDTi common-rail diesel available in either 69 or 89bhp trim and an all-new 1.7-litre CDTi unit packing 123PS.
Prices and further specs of both the three and five-door models will be dished out when the car is officially launched at the British Motor Show in July. Over and out.
In the name of completeness, a few more snaps of the three-door Corsa:
