Peeved TVR owners plot factory protest

Barbarians at the (factory) gate
They’re angry and they’re not going to take it anymore. Disugusted, disgruntled and dejected (pick a d-word) TVR owners are planning to descend on the company’s Blackpool facility this Friday to demonstrate their support for TVR’s soon-to-be-redundant workforce and their opposition to plans to move manufacturing of the hairy British sports cars to Italy…
In mid-October TVR announced that all production in the UK would cease in favour of an outsourcing arrangement with an unnamed European partner. Last week, further details emerged with Italian coachbuilder Bertone revealed as TVR’s choice for final assembly. British engineering outfit Ricardo will be responsible for both manufacturing TVR’s straight-six lump and reengineering it to meet Euro IV emissions standards.

Anywho, the impromptu demo is being organised by enthusiasts on long-time TVR fansite Pistonheads.com (relevant discussion thread here). Apparently, the plan is to congregate outside the factory and give the production staff a congratulatory horn blasting and all-round engine-revving send off as they file out at the end of a long day’s grind.
Unusually, however, it’s actually the trades unions providing the voice of reason regarding the impact of the event. According to Blackpool Today, union leaders support the demonstration but doubt it will have any influence on the future of the sports car outfit.
Nevertheless, talks between TVR management, Blackpool Council and the unions regarding a rescue package designed to keep the company in the UK reportedly continue. The saga continues…
