Fuel-cell power not for production
With the Paris motor show approaching, the concept cars are coming thick and fast. Today’s effort is this coupe-cabriolet from Peugeot based on the new 207 hatchback. Although the car’s sci-fi fuel cell powertrain is an unlikely candidate for production, there’s little doubting that, styling-wise, you’re looking at the new folding-hardtop equipped 207 CC…

For the record, the 207 EPURE is powered by an electric motor combined with PSA Peugeot Citroën Group’s new “GENEPAC 20” 20 kW experimental fuel cell (designed in partnership with the French Atomic Energy Commission). The electricity produced by the fuel cell supplements the power provided by a pack of lithium-ion batteries resulting in a range of around 218 miles and a Vmax of 81 mph. Of course, the chances of Peugeot producing a fuel cell vehicle in the foreseeable future are slim to none. The company doesn’t even plan to roll out its first diesel-electric hybrid until 2010.
Safe to say, therefore, when the series production 207 coupe-cabriolet arrives in 2007, the engine mix will be familiar gaggle of four-pot petrol and diesel lumps.
