Shelby special only available to rent
We’ve no idea how Hertz makes the numbers add up. But long may it continue. A pifling $149.99 per day is all it will cost you to rent a unique Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H from Hertz in the US. And that’s the headline weekday rate. Stack your coupons, membership plans and other special-offer deals and the $100 dollar a day Shelby could well be yours. That’s Renault Megane money back in Euroland…
Not your average rental barge
Built exclusively for Hertz in the US, the Shelby GT-H packs an additional 25 horses over the standard 300hp GT, as well as Ford’s Racing Handling Pack and a fancy paint job and trick hood. The Shelby GT-H will be available at 18 airport depots across the US later this month.
Locations include Hertz Fun Collection outlets in Phoenix, Arizona; Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego and San Francisco, California; Denver, Colorado; Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Orlando, Tampa and West Palm Beach, Florida; Maui and Honolulu, Hawaii, and Las Vegas, Nevada. The car will also be available in Boston, Massachusetts; Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington.
The Hertz-only Shelby GT-H gets 325hp, a slammed chassis and a gold 'n black paint job that harks back to the original GT350H, a Shelby special offered to Hertz customer exactly 40 years ago
Just 500 units of the Shelby GT-H will be built for Hertz and if you fancy a ride, book sooner rather than later. Hertz is planning on flogging the lot at auction early next year.
Of course, this isn’t the only enthusiast-friendly deal on offer from one of the big rental outfits. Avis Germany will do you a 911 for a day for just £170. Yup, that’s the latest 997-vintage, 170mph Porker. Puts the £500+ a day fees charged by specialist hire firms into perspective…
