S6 or RS6?

Rumour mill mulls Audi, er, mill
The butchery currently being carried out on Audi’s previously peerless design ethic still makes us queesy (note to Audi design guru Walter da Silva: those gaping grilles look crap). But there’s no doubting this big blue beast caught testing in Germany looks the part.
Clearly, it’s a high performance A6, but which one? Autocar ambitiously suggests it’s the much rumoured RS6, powered by a derivation of the delectable Lamborghini Gallardo’s 5-litre V10. However, we prefer The Car Connection’s theory. It’s the new S6 running a V8. That’s a 5.2-litre, 440bhp powerhouse, if Car Connection has got it sums right, optionally confugured with a seven speed, double-clutch DSG robot gearbox. Of course, none of that will help remedy the A6’s fundamental chassis design flaw: an engine slung out in front of the front wheels is never going to be a recipe for a great driver’s car. More’s the pity.
