Czechs put quirky concept into production
Skoda’s quirky Roomster concept has made it into production. The
show car was first shown at the Frankfurt show in 2003, so that’s an
impressive two and half year concept-to-reality turn around.
As these first official images show, the series production vehicle stays faithful to the show car’s spirit while quietly dropping many of its more aggressive styling features. Probably the most significant casualty is the loss of the smooth curvature of the integrated wrap around windscreen and side windows. Skoda has attempted to simulate this effect by painting the A-pillars black, but it’s not entirely successful – ultimately, it doesn’t hide the sharp angle twixt windscreen and door glass.
Technical details are few and far between beyond Skoda’s confirmation that a range of petrol and diesel engines will be offered. The Roomster will make its official debut at the Geneva show at the end of Feb.
