Another day, another concept to wow les car enthusiasts at the upcoming Paris motor show. The Suzuki Splash (geddit? It’ll make a spl…oh, the pathos) is a knowing wink in the direction of the Japanese outfit’s forthcoming effort for the mini people carrier segment, currently populated by the Hondauxhall Jaziva or, er, whatever…

The sperm-whale-alike body is mounted on the Swift/SX4 superstructure, with the onus on space liberation. At 3,780mm in length, it’s 5cm shorter but 13cm taller and 10cm wider than the Honda Jazz and accommodates up to five adults. Whether that’s five full-sized adults seated in comfort or five unfortunate souls competing for a pack-‘em-in-tight Guiness-style world record, only time will tell.
The grubby bits consist of an all-new 1.2 litre engine, running through a four- speed auto ‘box. Sounds anaemic, but the Suzuki Swift was also at the shallow end of the bhp dream pool, but remained an ebullient little scamp.
Likely to replace both the Wagon R+ and the Ignis, pricing is unconfirmed, but expect it to undercut current rivals when it’s launched at the end of ‘07.
The new Swift Sport
Suzuki will also show their new Euro version of the Swift Sport at Paris. In brief, you get a1.6-litre, 4-pot VVT-lump producing 125bhp wrapped in a pimped out body package. The scramble to 62mph takes 8.9 clicks. Massaged suspension and 17-inch hoops complete the picture. Available in three-door format only, it’s yours for a piffling £11,500 and a likely leftfield choice for enthusiasts on a budget.
