Legendary designer does front-engined Fezza
Legendary Italian car designer Giorgietto Giugiaro has prepared a Ferrari concept for the Tokyo motorshow (starts tomorrow, kids!). The GG50 is based on a shortened Ferrari 612 Scaglietti platform and is a typical modern front-engined Fezza design – it’s a little bit fugly.
Of course, with the 575 Maranello replacement due soon (usually referred to as the Ferrari 600 Imola, but could reuse the classic Testarossa moniker), it would be tempting to treat the GG50 as a pointer for the new official model. But no, the concept is nothing more than a celebration of Giugiaro’s 50 years in the business. That, we must say, is a relief. The GG50, with its late 90s lines and ultra short overhangs, is not Giugiaro’s finest work (for an example of some of Giugiaro’s finest, and a reminder of when Ferraris used to be beautiful, scroll to the bottom of the page). That said, we have a sinking feeling that the Ferrari 600 Imola / Testarossa won’t be a conventional beauty, either.

Of course, this isn’t Giugiaro’s first Fezza. The great man knocked out a couple in the 1960s, including this disgustingly beautiful 1961 250 GT Bertone. They absolutely, positively don’t make ‘em like this anymore:

Ummm, nurse!

I quite like the new one... although I like the car in minority report :-)
