Honda FCX

This concept’s party piece is an advanced fuel-cell powertrain integrated into the base of the chassis allowing for an entirely flat cabin floor and an exceptionally airy and spacious interior. Of course, the brutal truth is that the same basic idea has appeared on many a fuel-cell powered concept over the past decade. Still, at least the FCX keeps Honda’s new design vibe, first seen on the recently released new Civic, going strong with its sleek one-box lines. The car will be on display at the show with a matching Home Energy charging station.

Honda W.O.W. Concept

Honda’s also paying attention to its rich heritage of monikering its models in mangled Japlish with the “W.O.W. concept”. A compact family car probably designed for the Japanese market, the W.O.W apparently delivers “a more enjoyable dog-friendly mobile life-style.” Whether there’s a large, as yet unfulfilled, demand for in-car pooch portals among Japan’s urban population, we at Newswheel dare not speculate. But this concept certainly suggests that the crazy-popular Nintendogs video game hasn’t driven real canines into obselence. Well, for one breed, at least. It seems the Japanese still have space in their hearts (and now their cars) for dash-hounds…ba-dum tizz.
P.S. Jokes about Korean market in-dash lunch boxes have been studiously avoided.![]()
Honda Sports4
Probably the most serious concept of Honda’s Tokyo trio - for Euro and American markets, at any rate - is the Sports4. With taut three box styling, an all-wheel drivetrain (imaginatively dubbed “Super Handling – All Wheel Drive”, or SH-AWD for short) and an emphasis on both sporty driving dynamics and passenger-carrying luxury, this concept is a salvo across BMW, Mercedes and Audi’s bows (as if Toyota’s huge success in the US with the Lexus brand wasn’t warning enough that the Japanese are ready to take over the premium sector). Technical highlights include an active transmission delivering power to all four wheels according to available grip.
