Stately steed to get bent 12?
Most of the speculation regarding Tata’s recent bagging of Jaguar and
Land Rover has focused on the implications of the deal for the big cat.
But what about our favourite purveyor of all-terrain vehicles? Well,
the latest scuttlebutt from the camera-happy sleuths at Brenda Priddy
& Co is that A V12 Range Rover is currently undergoing winter
testing…
For now, the evidence in the spy shots is restricted to a set of quad exhaust pipes and a front bumper-mounted cooling config thought to be consistent with a V12 lump. Of course, it’s far from clear where Tata-owned LR would source a V12 engine. Sister brand Jaguar, of course, is currently tooling up for a 5.0l revision of its V8 petrol engine. Still, at the very least the development mule caught testing indicates a high performance model is under development.
Further out, Land Rover could be preparing to push the Rangie further up market. According to a recent report in US rag Autoweek, the all new model due in 2013 will very likely crack the £100,000 barrier.
