Boosted Vectra is a keeper, Monaro a limited edition
493bhp of supercharged V8 grunt for just £35,995? That’ll be the new limited edition Monaro VXR500, unveiled today by Vauxhall. It’s less than half the price of any other 500bhp-ish coupe, according to Vauxhall. Bizzarely, it’s also precisely £1,000 less than the standard, naturally aspirated Monaro VXR. Also launched today is the tweaked 2007 model year Vectra VXR…

As well as a 96bhp boost over the boggo Monaro VXR, the addition of a supercharger also squeezes an extra 108lb/ft of torque from the ‘Vette-derived 6.0-litre pushrod V8 (for a grand total of 499lb/ft). Vauxhall has not provided precise performance figures, but estimates a sub five second sprint to 60mph and a terminal velocity in the region of 180mph. Quite quick, therefore. Just one dealer will be taking orders for the VXR500, namely Greens Vauxhall (tel 01634 246755).

As for the massaged Vectra VXR, a redesigned induction system, modified engine components and retuned management software boost the blown 2.8-litre V6 from 252bhp to 276bhp. Enough, that is, for a 6.1 second sprint to 60mph. Vauxhall has not divulged the car’s top speed, but 160mph-plus must be on the cards. The revised Vectra VXR also gets retuned spring and electronic damper settings including a greater differential between standard and sport modes. Vauxhaull has not announced pricing.
