VW CrossPolo (UPDATED)

Soft-roader the second
As exercises in ironic nomenclature go, it doesn’t get much better than the VW Polo Fun. Unless, of course, your idea of fun is ruining the ride and handling of a car by jacking the suspension up by 20mm for purely cosmetic purposes. But ignore our cynicism. Because VW sold three times more Funs than originally planned. So, it’s no surprise that VW has created another soft-roader variant for the recently updated Polo range, known as the CrossPolo.
Unfortunately, our foreign language skills as yet don’t stretch to the finer points of technical automotive German. So, we’re not sure if VW has made an honest car of this second-gen jacked-up Polo and given it four-wheel drive. However, we do know that the car will be shown at the Essen tuning fair in Germany from the 25th November and goes on sale in the motherland in February 2006 from a very reasonable €15,150. No word yet on UK availability or pricing.
Update:
The CrossPolo will be known as the Polo Dune in the UK and will not be offered with four-wheel drive. Two engines will be offered, a 74bhp 1.4-litre turbodiesel and a 60bhp 1.4-litre petrol powerplant. Prices start at £12645 and sales kick off in March 2006.
