VW tweaks Touran MPV

Eos. Eos. Oh.
Ahead of its official public unveiling at the Paris auto show, VW has fired off images and initial technical details for the refreshed Touran compact MPV. It’s largely a cosmetic effort that involves grafting VW’s latest, more rounded and organic corporate protruding nasal implement - as seen on the Eos coupe-cabriolet - onto the rather boxy and dowdy Touran…

However, the refreshed Touran does have one claim to fame. It will be the first VW to offer the company’s new automatic parking system, known as ParkAssist. Using ultrasonic sensors front and rear, the system guides the driver to the optimal start position. Once the driver has dropped ‘er in reverse, the system takes over responsibility for steering, with the driver manning the accelerator and brakes. With reverse gear selected, the whole process is said to require under 15 seconds. ParkAssist is expected to be made available in Blighty from June 2007.
Inside, the refreshed Touran retains the previous model’s seven-seater layout and adds new upholstery and stainless steel trim, plus an MP3-compatible radio/CD player. The usual battery of VW four-pot diesel and petrol lumps provide power. Oh, happy days.
The new Touran goes on sale early next year.
