RS4 Avant and Cabriolet announced
A wagonised version of Audi’s M3-spanking RS4? We can jive with that. But despite the availability of an S4 drop-top, we still weren’t expecting the Germans to drop that screamer of a V8 into the bouffant buffer that is the A4 cabriolet…
If the V6 A4 cabriolet weighs nearly 1,800kg, just how heavy is this beast?
Yup, that’s 414bhp worth of Audi V8, peaking at a rather racey 8,250rpm and complete with Quattro four-wheel drive packed into that elegant drop-top frame. Please form an orderly queue. Of course, whether the RS4 cabriolet will make for a fine driver’s car, we canne tell ye. It does benefit from the full RS chassis treatment, including a 30mm drop all round compared with the standard cabrio. But we can’t help noticing it’s nearly a full second slower to 125mph than the four-door RS4 (16.6 seconds plays 17.5). Given that the boggo 3.2-litre V6 cabriolet weighs around 1,800kg, we really don’t want to know how many kilos the RS4 cab will rock the world with. No taunting of the fat kid in the RS4 range, please…
Audi reckons the RS4 Avant is near-as-dammit as quick as the saloon
As for the RS4 Avant, it’s the latest in a long line of uber Audi estates – the previous RS4 was, of course, only available as an Avant model. And if its 16.9 second sprint to 125mph is anything to go by, it should be a little bit less of a porker than the cab.
