What price a VW Eos?

£19,385, that’s what

So, the Peugeot 307, Renault Megane and Vauxhall Astra are all available with bona fide folding hard tops. But with all three sharing hand-me-down body panels with their deeply ordinary hatchback brethren, they’re permeated with an air of try hard desperation – you just know they’d have their own clothes if they could afford it. Enter the VW Eos. Sure, it’s little more than a re-jigged Golf. But it does boast fully bespoke tailoring all round. And UK pricing has just been revealed…

At £19,385 for the 1.6-litre 115bhp model, it’s around £2k pricier than those more mundane machines. And probably worth every extra penny for the added feel good factor – this is a seriously classy looking machine. That said, at just £20,765 the 150bhp 2.0-litre FSI model looks like a very tempting upgrade.

The Eos is also available with VW’s familiar 2.0-litre diesel banger in 140bhp trim, starting at £21,385, while the range topper packs the 250bhp narrow-angle 3.2 V6 from the Golf R32. Barring the entry-level 1.6-litre box, all models are available with V-Dub’s DSG dual-clutch robot gearbox.
